Second Chance K9 is a rescue organization that pairs High Drive rescues (Mals) with special operations veterans who suffer from PTSD Or TBI. It’s a very focused program that places dogs who thrive on having a job, with veterans who desperately need a purpose.
Your tax-deductible donation to Second Chance K-9 could be the key to saving not one, but two lives. Our Veterans are paired with a Rescue Malinois, German Shepherd, or Dutch Shepherd to give them both a new lease on life.
Connecting a military Style dog (Rescue) with a Special Forces Veteran unites them both with a purpose. That’s what Second Chance is all about. Imagine the trust our Veterans have in a dog that looks just like the one he or she may have deployed with. Our Rescues give our Veterans a familiar face from past deployments or combat operations. With the Recent Popularity of the Malinois Breed we are finding jobs for Rescues who desperately need them.
Founded by Special Forces Veteran and former Special Forces dog handler Travis Hall, Second Chance has evolved from Hall’s own experience with Bear, a dog who was deployed four times to Iraq. Hall said of Bear, “I didn’t realize it at the time, but that dog changed my life.”
Bear’s Story
Bear was my 5th Special Forces working dog from roughly 2008-2011. He and I did four deployments to Iraq together supporting the ODA’s and Troops we were a part of. Bear was a true Green Beret in that he lived the motto “De Oppresso Liber” (to free the oppressed). Bear could take down a bad guy, then be loving to a kid on the target.
Our charity is a way to honor his legacy and give back to the Veteran community that I am a part of. After Bear passed away from old age (retired to myself) I felt an emptiness in my life without him. I had no idea how much a Service dog had affected my life and the others lives around me. Thankfully for me he his story lives on in his legacy and his daughter Barin who is now retired with us and Kuma our Service Dog for the Rescue.
